The Dalton School, Interior and Exterior Renovation, Upper East Side New York, NY
Peter acted as a Staff Designer on this project with The Downtown Group/Downtown Designworks Architecture (DDA).
DDA had been involved with a number of projects for New York’s prestigious Dalton School. They include, the redesign of the front of the school, space planning of the music department, design of The Dalton New Lab – their new media facility, restoration of the administrative building façade and restoration of the theater. The largest of the projects, the theater restoration, recreated a classical interior that was fondly remembered by thousands of alumni, but which had been destroyed by a prior renovation. Working from original 1912 drawings, DDA created a beautiful, ornate proscenium that is virtually identical to the original. Lighting and acoustics were upgraded to professional standards. These days, “the show goes on” at Dalton in an extraordinary new performance space that honors the history and tradition of one of New York’s most renowned schools.
